THIS MEMORIAL CONSIST OF A 14 FOOT TALL BRONZE “DOUGHBOY” SOLDIER. HE HOLDS A RIFLE, AND HAS A FLAG DRAPED OVER HIS SHOULDER, AND IS DEPICTED AS IF IN THE MIDST OF BATTLE. AT THE TIME OF ITS DEDICATION THIS MEMORIAL WAS PLACED IN THE HEART OF A WORKING-CLASS TENEMENT DISTRICT. IT WAS DEDICATED TO THE MEN FROM THE CHELSEA NEIGHBORHOOD WHO FOUGHT AND DIED IN WORLD WAR I.
