CITATION:

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Gregory Mahoney, United States Army, for gallantry in attack on a large party of Cheyennes on September 26 – 28, 1874, while serving with Company E, 4th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Red River, Texas.
