AT THIS SITE STOOD FORT TOULOUSE, LATER FORT JACKSON, NAMED IN HONOR OF GEN. ANDREW JACKSON WHO ON MARCH 27, 1814 DEFEATED THE CREEK INDIANS IN A DECISIVE BATTLE AT HORSESHOE BEND.
