In 2024, the Harris Family recreated a new Memorial, which includes two original stones that were placed by two former property owners, the Putmans and the Weatherups, thus making the new “Putman Weatherup Harris Memorial”. This creative art installation includes a 1949 Military Truck, a 1970’s Gasboy gas pump, and a large “Gulf” gas sign, all inspired by the previous families who lived at the same property and the history of the small rural Town of Brooks. The military truck is the same Ford pickup featured in the newspaper clipping back on August 11th, 1950 which also showed the original black and white photo of the unveiling of the Putman Memorial. The Gasboy gas pump would have been similar to the ones at the old 70’s gas station that was located across the street, next to the old general store and what is now Town Hall, during the time the second Weatherup Memorial was placed. The “Gulf” gas sign was inspired by the Putman family’s gas station, which is predominantly featured in the famous 1940’s black and white photo of downtown Brooks, which can be seen in Town Hall today. The Harris Family is also adding another stone to commemorate those veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan War.
