BRONZE BUTTON WITH “NUTS CITY” IN CENTER OF THE STONE IS A REFERENCE TO BRIGADIER GENERAL ANTHONY MCAULIFFE’S ANSWER TO THE GERMANS REQUEST THAT HE SURRENDER THE CITY OF BASTONGE BECAUSE HE WAS SURROUNDED. HIS ANSWER WAS “NUTS.”
